What makes downloading movies legal vs. illegal?
i know someone who downloads movies through this site called utorrent or something like that and gives them to all his friends and what not. I told him that i thought is was illegal and he said it was illegal only if you sell them. I’ve also seen that it depends where you download them from. Now i’m confused can anyone help?

The software itself (µTorrent) is neither legal, nor illegal. It can just be used in legal or illegal ways.
What your friend is doing is illegal. Because he is distributing copyrighted material that hasn’t been paid for. If caught, he could face a heavy fine and a jail sentence.
It doesn’t matter where its downloaded from, if it’s not been paid for (every single copy) then it’s breaking the law.

People, I want just ask you that question about my downloading because I pay it since 2006 and I think that this type of downloading is legal. In my mind – the illegal downloading is when you pay $0 forever!
