Actually, that first answer is sooooo wrong. You did not ‘purchase the license’, that is so ridiculous. People pay millions for license rights, not $17.99.

When you purchase a CD or DVD you purchase the media as it’s presented ‘in that format’, and for that only. Otherwise, I could buy a videotape of a movie and then just take a DVD copy because I already paid for the movie in another format? No, I couldn’t. It’s the same with downloading.

Any way you slice it, it’s illegal to download any copywritten material that isn’t purchased as a download or provided free by a website, whether it’s for personal use only or other use. Even if you already own the video and want to download it.

That being said, if you want to get the clips from your DVDs, you first have to convert them to a digital format. Then you can save them on your hard drive and use them with WMM.

If you don’t want to “break” your laptop (I assume you talk about vira and other nasty stuff that gets on your computer) I recommend you look at little deeper into downloading, and how to be more careful of what you expose your machine to.

I don’t know if you want to obey the law about piracy or not, it is possible to watch movies online for free legally, but your selection is limited. I don’t know any legal sites to watch movies online, but I do know that piracy gives you a much better chance at making sure what stuff you get on your computer, and your choices are obviously a lot bigger.
However, Yahoo Anwers doesn’t approve of it since its obviously not legal (Please note that “downloading” is NOT synonymous with “piracy” or “illegal”, you CAN download things legally with some of the programs available! Its WHAT you download that makes the difference, not weather or not you do so). Google or other websites will probably help you with this.
Teaching yourself to do this right will also prevent any risk of you ‘breaking’ your laptop 🙂

It has been rumored that Nintendo has to ability to deactivate you Wii remotely if they find you have been playing pirated games. This my only be true if you use a mod chip, but Im not sure.

So, you don’t like decimals?;-) They are kind of confusing. You can make a decent slow motion vid using WMM 6.0 and Blaine’s Custom Speed Effects (which aren’t decimals;-) Blaine’s effects work on both the video and the audio track so the audio slows down by as much as the video. If you don’t want to hear the distorted audio, you just right click in the audio track and click on “Mute” to silence it.

The first thing you’d have to do is download WMM 6.0 combined with an installer for W7. Blaine’s site is clean and safe. I’ve been downloading his effects for Vista’s MM for a few years. The video linked to below was made on WMM 6.0 on my W7 machine.

I have done this in the past and I did it this way:

I downloaded the movie so that I have the file on my computer (either from a torrent site or sharing downloader like limewire etc.) – Note: I must say for legal reasons that downloading is illegal. K, I’m done now lol. Or if you are using an actual dvd then you will have to rip your DVD to an AVI video file using a special burning program. Once completed, I open the file with a video editing program like Ulead Video Studio or Windows Movie Maker which comes loaded on you windows computer (I have xp and it is preloaded – if you have a mac, then you might have to get a program like that.)
I then open the video editing program (In my case Windows movie maker) and open the file I would like to edit (in your case, the movie training day). Now, you take the whole file, which has just been opened to your program and add it to your storyboard (usually drag and drop), and from there you will see little tabs on the story board. You then find your selected scene in the movie and adjust the tabs (or markers) until it has edited the movie to show the scene you need. You do so by basically shortening the movie file to your selected scene. Here is a link of a video tutorial for beginners. It gives you step by step and will definitely help you out.

Save your project. Then, if you need another scene, you add another Training Day movie file to the storyboard and do the same thing for the next scene etc. Etc. Until you have done so for all of the scenes you need for a movie of clips. Or if you just want to add little clips of the movie to different parts of the power point presentation, do one scene and save it, then close the file and start a new video.

Once finished. Make sure to save and then open up powerpoint and insert media file. Voila, you are done!

Any distro of linux would work because the operating system is open source and alot of people are starting to catch on to its features. Try searching for Ubuntu, Red Hat, Knoppix. Are you downloading something for free that should charged a fee? If so, you’re truely risking the intregrity of your system. Viruses/trojans/key-loggers, etc are wonderfully imbedded in pirated material. If you want to use clips in Windows Movie Maker, I believe that they have to be saved onto your computer.
If you’re looking to use a safe site, I’d suggest downloading the latest version of RealPlayer (guaranteed to be virusless). ITunes makes it too darn complicated and near impossible to recover older purchases. Sure, anything purchased recently gets put in our cloud, but sharing (as in LEGALLY – on my OWN MP3 player, tablet, phone, etc) and transferring songs in iTunes is such a massive PITA!!!

Yup, that person is right about the illegal stuff BUT when they finish up by saying that you are not entitled to download for free that which you have already purchase, technically this is NOT correct. If this were the case, every time we purchased a song, we would only be entitled to listen to it once & then we would have to purchase it again. But, by purchasing it, we are paying royalties for the use of that song. When you buy a song, you can listen to it as many times as you want because you have already paid your fee to have the rights to do so. Why should you have to purchase it again? You are not using it for promotion (ie. Airing it in a video, tv program, movie – they have to pay EACH time they use a copy-written song, unless they have paid to have certain usage rights to a song – like ‘CSI’ doesn’t have to pay EVERY time they use The Who song during their credits, the show has bought certain rights to use that song as its theme song).

Ya, I still feel guilty about trying to find & download free tunes. I bought so many songs (still buy them) through iTunes, Amazon & CD’s. But, then I found I couldn’t purchase a lot of the songs I wanted that were more obscure. The ONLY ‘glitch’ with this program is that if you don’t download their toolbar (have option to add on their toolbar and a link to some web page – I always opt out), you only get, I think it’s 10 downloads before you have to delete the program & re-install it. Pretty sure if you use their toolbar, you can do limitless downloads – but don’t know for sure cause haven’t tried – I like my toolbar 😉

I was very leary of unknown websites and what I might import BESIDES the music I wanted. Took me a while to find a trusted site/program that worked well & was easy to use. I tried different programs that didn’t work as well – they seemed to lock up during downloads.

I got started on using this program because my favorite band (30 Seconds To Mars) has many songs that have only been performed live in front of an audience (like ‘Save Me’ & ‘No Other Son/The Believer’ have no studio recording & ARE NOT available for purchase) or had hard time finding song (like ‘Valhalla’) through any trusted MP3 website (to purchase or otherwise – and I was not about to purchase a song & give my credit card info to some random website).
