Laura asks…
Is it legal to download movies/games/MP3s of the net, IF you already own them but have lost them?
I have lost and broken a couple of my good classic games and movies [ 🙁 ] and wouldn’t want to re buy them, so is it legal to download them off the net if you can prove you’ve actually bought them?

The idea of backups as fair use of media has long been in contention. VCR recording was declared legal by the courts, but modern methods of copy protection have been upheld as well. The law differs in varying areas and by individual copyright holder’s judgment.
Generally, it’s not legal. The terms of sale are of the physical media (CDs/DVDs) themselves, not of the content. There’s a reason that online game services such as Steam are picking up well, steam. Access to your games is not controlled via physical media in that case, and you can re-download the game for free legally as part of the purchase agreement. Same goes for other such services such as Desura, and you can find some classics at Good Old Games.
Some copyright holders might be cool with the downloads if you have proof of purchase, but it’s no guarantee and really isn’t worth that risk.

Is there any legal site that I can download movies in avi or any other formats that I can burn to dvd?
I have been searching the net for a site that is legal to download movies from that I don’t have to pay that much for that I can burn to a playable dvd disk that I can play in any dvd player besides limewire for I don’t know if downloading from them is legal or illegal I think it is illegal even though I paid for the pro version of there program.
I have found some sites like ZML.com but I read they are a ruissan company and they are not really legal I aslo found www.setyourdvd.com but I can’t seem to find out if they are legal eather any ideas out there will be help full, for I don’t want to download a movie and be busted by the movie police and sent to jail for illegal download.
I’m willing to pay to download the movie but I am not willing to pay some site that is a fake site.

Nancy asks…
is it legal to download movies?
is it legal to download movies not from p2p sharing networks. Its from a ordinary portal and use it for my personal use. and delete them after 24hrs.
admin answers:
P2P & File Sharing Technology is completely legal. There are an countless number of legal uses for content found on P2P networks (such as to comment upon, criticize or parody a copyrighted work.). However, many of the files traded via P2P are copyrighted to their original owners and their rights need to be respected. Check your local laws to find out when file sharing is considered piracy in your country.
TorrentPortal is like Google™ in that it only links to .torrent metafiles and takes a cache of such files. None of the data transferred by or stored on TorrentPortal servers is content linked to by .torrent files.
Unless you live in Canada, downloading copyrighted material via P2P may put you at risk for a lawsuit. Canadian users are currently shielded from P2P lawsuits. Canada signed the 1997 World Intellectual Property Organization Internet Treaties, but has not yet ratified them by enacting their provisions into domestic law. Recently there has been class-action suits filed against users who copy and distribute copyrighted material without regard for the law. The MPAA, RIAA and the governments of both England and Australia have taken several thousand users to court demanding thousands of dollars. Your ISP may, on their own judgment, give their logs of your downloading activity to those who request it. In those situations, the more you download and share, the more risk you put yourself at.
Please keep all this in mind before you use any portion of TorrentPortal.
Know your local laws and be sure you are following them.
