burning .avi files?

i have beeen downloading lots of movies using torrent sites and now my harddrive is full and i want to burn them to DVDs so i can watch them on my 52″ tv instead of on my 17.5″ labtop.i also use the media player VCL i currently have Roxio as my burning agaent for the labtop. it came with it, and i really dont know how to use it. i have a mix of mpeg, mp4 and .avi files on my harddrive and REALLY need to get them off so i can get more. if you have any words of advice then i would appreciate them. peace out.

admin answers:

You have to convert them not only in aspect but type.

What country are you in?

NTSC is for USA and is either 15, 29.997 or 30 frames per second. Audio is 48,000 hz sample rate
PAL is for Europe and is 12, 24 or 25 frames per second. Audio is 44,100 hz sample rate

I find if I produce anything other than a 48,000 hz samples per second audio, the TMPGEnc DVD Author program I use does not like and screws up the audio and re encoded the 44,100 as 48,000 hz without properly converting it and everything sounds slower and lip sync is off.

You basic route is .avi to .mpg as an MPEG1 or MPEG2 stream to .VOB file for DVD.

You can get .avi to .vob convertors but they often create more of a headache than a cure because they very often do not produce .IFO and .BUP files that are very important for the DVD to function and they often require lots of other bits of software, where as the normal route is to take the .avi, make an .mpg compliant file then use a program like TMPGEnc DVD Author to use the .mpg file and you then create a full set of DVD Files from that.

You will need plenty of drive space too, typical amount of space required depends on how the .avi file encodes but at least 9.5 to 10 Gigs of spare space to make the mpg file and DVD files prior to burning.

Why can’t I edit my internet-downloaded videos?

I download videos as an FLV file from YouTube and other internet sites that contain videos. When I download them, I convert them to MP4 just so the file is more useful with other objectives.

My problem is when I try to drag the video files to “Sony Vegas”, “Windows Movie Maker” and etc. A message shows “Cannot read codec (encoder) whatever..”

But the thing is, I already have an encoder which is “VLC Player” and “Media Player Classic” can someone help me so I can edit these videos and upload them.

admin answers:

What exactly is tyhe error message you see ? I am pretty sure “Cannot read codec (encoder) whatever..” is not what gets displayed. One very important rule of using computers is to trust the error message, because it is supposed to help you fix the problem.

File from GamePlanet (gpdownloads.co.nz)…?

I want to download Killzone 3 Trailer from this site:

http://dlx.gameplanet.co.nz/pub/movies/2011_01_Killzone3_CES_EU.mp4

but I’m living in Europe and this site is only for New Zeland, I was looking for on other sites, but found only in shitty quality. So maybe someone from NZ can upload this file to Rapidshare/Hotfile/Megaupload/etc.? I will be very greateful! 😀

Cheers
“Did you check for the file at the megaupload search engine ?”

Yes, but it didn’t found anything :/ I checked all sites with trailers and I found only some file which has 50MB and quality is very bad, this file on Gameplanet has 168MB, so it should be much better 😉

youtube accepts file not exceeding 100 MB and 10 minutes, and…

Youtube only accepts certain video format.

Using windows movie maker — you have to save it into the proper file format, that is WMV file (use the “save movie file” on the menu at the top left) before upload..

The WMV file will be smaller in size but still quite good quality.. So uploading it will be faster.

Use windows movie maker (included in your windows machine)… It can help you make beautiful slideshow or video clip(e.g. Mixing your songs with pictures/video/etc)…. Then save it as video file such as wmv file format… Finally upload.

Or .. Just get those clips you want , save & convert them, and then mix/match with pix/sound/etc using windows movie maker to create new masterpieces….

This will help you…. Use ‘zillatube’. This is the easiest (and also the fastest) way.

Zillatube produces mpg/mp3 formats from youtube that are compatible with windows movie maker(or media player), and more.

It is very easy to download and convert videos. Then edit those converted mp3/mpg videos with windows movie maker… Save your file as wmv and then upload.

It works very well….just google search for “zillatube”

admin answers:

Uh….best thing to do is try to convert that mpeg to all the other formats and try uploading those to youtube separately….like mpeg—>avi and upload or mpeg—>wmv and upload
and depends on ur editing cuz movie maker can edit it but end result of it is a “movie maker file format” which only THAT particular movie maker can read on THAT computer only
but here’s the convertor u can find http://www.nchsoftware.com/prism/plus.html
